Warriors Ranked #8 in Preseason National Poll
WVC BASEBALL 2010 Season Outlook
WVC Baseball returns for the spring with high hopes. The Warriors were the second place team in the GRAC last year with an 18-6 conference record, a second place conference tournament finish, a 42-17 overall record, and had 3 draft picks into the major leagues. Head coach Rob Fournier looks to build upon that success in 2010.
Key facts: *PGCrosschecker.com (A division of Perfect Game USA, the nation’s largest scouting service) has given WVC a pre-season #11 ranking. This, unlike the NJCAA polls, includes all of California and all levels of JUCO. This ranking includes over 600 junior colleges that play baseball.
*PGCrosschecker
has also given recognition to WVC players.
Mel Rojas Jr- Freshman- OF- recognized in the preseason 2010 MLB draft
outlook as the #203 player in country, which includes all high school,
4 year colleges,
and junior college players. This projection would place him in the
6th-7rd range. The highest draft pick in Rob Fournier’s history is
a 7th round pick Ryan Hill. Rojas was ranked as the #13 ranked JUCO draft
in
the country
as well.
Michael Mosby-Sophomore-3B- was recognized as the #90th ranked JUCO prospect in the country.
NJCAA Honors
WVC was ranked as the #8 team in the country. This is the highest preseason
ranking in WVC baseball history. The Warriors were also picked
as the best team in the region, followed at #2 by Iowa Western and
#3 Triton
JC. The
NJCAA site and Perfect game site had this to say about Wabash Valley:
#8 Wabash Valley College, Ill. (2009 record: 42-17)
“There's
unusual strength this year in the Illinois junior-college ranks, both
at the Division I and II levels. Wabash Valley not only has the
best team, but the state's best prospect in freshman OF Mel Rojas Jr.,
a product of the Dominican Republic who sat out last spring before starring
in summer-league competition. The multi-tooled Rojas adds to a strong returning
cast, led by Western Kentucky-bound 3B Michael Mosby (.364-15-72), sophomore
C Jacob Rhodes (.403-9-51) and Morehead State-bound LHP Ryan Rogers (6-1,
3.13). Three Division I transfers add to the mix.”
*Jacob Rhodes-SO-C-as a freshman last year was named all-conference. He hit .403, 9 HR, 13 2B, 48 RBI, 6 SB.
*Last year WVC had 6 players honored as all-conference. The next closest school in the conference had only 3 players honored.
*5 players have already committed to play at four year schools next year. Ryan Rogers (Morehead State University), Michael Mosby (Western Kentucky University), Tory Doerr (Bradley University), Danny Gifford (Bradley University), Daniel Bollenbacher (Lincoln Memorial University).
*Warriors open up in Meridian, MS. February 12-14 with 4 games vs. Meridian CC (MS) and Wallace-Hanceville CC (AL) BOTH of whom are ranked in the top 30 in the country! They then travel to Jackson St. CC (TN) to play on February 16. The Warriors travel to Young Harris (GA) to play the first week of March. Young Harris was named the top junior college team in Georgia. WVC will also play Southern Union there, one of top JUCO teams in Alabama.
*WVC Baseball
had a 3.12 GPA for the fall semester.
*Head Coach Rob Fournier overall record is 515-233, which is a .689
winning percentage

2010 Spring Schedule Announced
12-10-09: The Warriors recently announced one of the toughest schedules in the nation, including playing some of the best teams in the country out of conference, along with the GRAC (Great Rivers Athletic Conference) schedule, which is one of the top Division 1 Junior College conferences in the country. The Warrios open their season with three games at Meridian (MS), which was preseason #8 in 2009 and annually is ranked in the top 20 in the nation and own two NJCAA National Championships. At Meridian the Warriors will also play Wallace-Hanceville(AL), which started off the season last year 16-0 and peaked at #5 in the country.
Three weeks later the Warriors travel to Young Harris (GA) to play four games. Young Harris had the player of the year in the country last year along with four draft picks. Young Harris is annually ranked in the top ten in the nation. The Warriors will also play Southern Union (AL), one of the top teams in the Southeast.
WVC will also take on the strongest team in northern IL, South Suburban, in a home game.
In conference Wabash Valley will be tested by playing all other eight teams three games each. Scouts and four-year college coaches alike recognize the GRAC as the top conference in the Midwest. WVC had the maximum six players named all-conference last year. The next closest team in the GRAC only had three players named all-conference. The Warriors look forward to testing themselves early and often in this difficult 2010 spring schedule.
1st Annual Home Run Club Established
This year we are accepting sponsers for the 1st annual WVC Baseball Home Run Club. For every home run hit by WVC during the 2010 spring season a sponser will donate $1. For example, if WVC hits 35 home runs on the year, $35 will be donated by the sponser. Sponsers will receive periodic updates during the season on the home run total. This is a very fun and exciting way to keep up with the Warriors and support the team!!! We are willing to put your name on the website under this article as a sponser if you choose to do so. Please email assistant coach Lance Rhodes at rhodesl@iecc.edu or call at 618-262-8641 ext 3322 if you are interested in being a sponser.
Five Warriors Sign with Four Year Schools in Early Signing Period
11-18-09: Michael Mosby (3B, Hancock Co. HS, KY) signed a national letter of intent with Western Kentucky University. Michael had a great season as a freshman for the Warriors last year, hitting .364, 15 HR, 14 2B, 11 SB, and 72 RBI. He was one of only four players in the country to have double digit home runs and stolen bases. His RBI total was 8th in the nation. His home run total was second in the nation for freshmen. WKU recruiting coordinator Blake Allen said, "We are extremely happy for Mike to step in and be an impact bat in the middle of our lineup next year. He has improved tremendously defensively and has a very strong arm. He gets great grades, and is a mature team leader that we need. Power bats are hard to find, and Mike definitely fits that description."
Ryan Rogers (LHP, Owensboro Catholic HS, KY) signed a national letter of intent with Morehead State Unversity. Ryan earned the number one starting role last year as a freshman, throwing the most innings on the team (63), earning the most wins (7), having the best win-loss record (7-1), and having one of the lowest ERA's on the team (3.12). Ryan will be counted on this year as a top weekend starter. Morehead State University recruiting coordinator Jason Neal said, "We are very excited to sign Ryan. We look for him to immediately step in and be one of our top starters on the weekend. He has proven himself in the one of the top junior college conferences in the country as freshman, and we look for him to continue his success in the Ohio Valley Conference with us."
Danny Gifford (RHP, Highland HS, IL) signed a national letter of intent with Bradley University. Danny was a dual player at WVC as a freshman, playing 1B/OF and pitching. Danny will assume the closer's role this year for the Warriors and be counted on heavily. Bradley recruiting coordinator John Corbin said, "We look for Danny to step in immediately and be an impact pitcher for us in the very tough Missouri Valley Conference. I love his aggressiveness and how he comes right at hitters, and that is what it takes to succeed at this level."
Tory Doerr (LHP, Bethalto, IL) signed a national letter intent to attend Bradley University. Tory was the first left hand pitcher out of the bullpen last year for WVC and will fulfill that role again this year. Bradley recruiting coordinator John Corbin said, "Tory has shown great development in the past year and we are very excited for him to be a part of our team next year. He has a lightning quick arm and a very good changeup that is effective against left or right handed hitters."
Daniel Bollenbacher (RHP, South Adams HS, IN) signed a national letter of intent with Lincoln Memorial University, one of the top Division II baseball schools in the country.. Daniel is a 6'5 250 power pitcher who was a top reliever for WVC last year. He will be counted on this year to attack hitters and be a difference-maker. LMU recruiting coordinator said, "The sky is the limit for Daniel, and we know we can help him to continue improving. He is already a very imposing pitcher now with great stuff, and we know he can step in and be a dominating pitcher for us next year."
Walk-off hit spurs Team Black to Series Win
11-5-09: The Black team took a 2-1 series lead with a stirring 8-7 come from behind victory. With the Black team down 7-5 in the 6th inning, Mel Rojas hit a 2 out bases clearing double to put in the Black team in front 8-7. Keith Haaff added a solo home run to lead the Black.

Perfect Game Crosschecker, a division of Perfect Game USA, is part of the largest scouting service in the country. Recently they released their pre-season top 50 Junior College programs and Wabash Valley College came in at #26. In addition, three pitchers from WVC were recognized
as top Junior College draft prospects by PG. Sophomores Blake Drake, Joe
Devine, and Julio Morales were all included in the PG top 250 Juco players.
Drake, a right-handed pitcher already committed to the University of
Arkansas comes in as the #17 draft prospect. Devine, a right-handed pitcher
already committed to the University of Kentucky came in as the #30 draft
prospect.
Morales, another right-handed pitcher already committed to Bethune-Cookman
University, was prospect #223.
In addition, the NJCAA has released their pre-season honors. Sophomore Juan Alvarez was recognized as a pre-season 3rd team All-American.
Congratulations to these sophomores for being recognized and we look forward to the season ahead with them!

hard, especially in the classroom, overcame a lot to get to this point..
They've
all had a rough time trying to pick a school, but they have all made great
decisions. "
Fournier said the players all chose great conferences with all the teams
being at the Division I level.
"It's a tribute to the program and a tribute to themselves that they accomplished
their goals and that's why they came here," the WVC coach said. "That was
their goal in the first place - to be a Division I player - and right now
they are officially accomplishing that so we are all very proud of them," he
